Inspection Procedure 3: The Windshield Wipers do not Stop at The Specified Park Position



caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

The windshield wiper motor or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list


Check if the ETACS-ECU receives the windshield wiper auto-stop signal.

  • Activate the windshield wipers.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 12.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Connector check: A-05 windshield wiper motor connector




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Repair the connector.

STEP 3. Check the windshield wiper motor assembly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES <LH drive vehicles> : Go to Step 4.
YES <RH drive vehicles> : Go to Step 8.
Replace the windshield wiper motor assembly.

STEP 4. Voltage measurement at the A-05 windshield wiper motor connector.



(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Ignition switch: ACC

(3)Check the voltage between the A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.1 and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.1 and ignition switch (ACC).




note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check the junction block connectors C-207, C-210, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the power supply line to ignition switch (ACC) for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Connector check: C-218 ETACS-ECU connector



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the connector.

STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.4 and C-218 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.6.





note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check the junction block connector C-210, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the input signal lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 12.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Voltage measurement at the A-05 windshield wiper motor connector.



(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Ignition switch: ACC

(3)Check the voltage between the A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.3 and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.

Go to Step 9.

STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.3 and ignition switch (ACC).




note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check the junction block connectors C-207, C-210, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the power supply line to ignition switch (ACC) for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 10. Connector check: C-218 ETACS-ECU connector



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.

Repair the connector.

STEP 11. Check the wiring harness between A-05 windshield wiper motor connector terminal No.5 and C-218 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.6.





note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check the junction block connector C-210, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the input signal lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 12.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 12. Retest the system.


Check that the windshield wipers stop at the specified park position.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
