Inspection Procedure 4: Any of Position Lamps or Licence Plate Lamps does not Illuminate.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the position lamps or the licence plate lamps do not illuminate, the wiring harness connector(s), the bulb or the fuse may be defective or burned out.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: A-117 position lamp (LH) connector or A-37 position lamp (RH) connector, F-05 licence plate lamp (LH) connector or F-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the bulbs of the position lamps or the licence plate lamps.

Check the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Replace the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the A-117 position lamp (LH) connector or A-37 position lamp (RH) connector, the F-05 licence plate lamp (LH) connector or F-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector.

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.

(2)Check the resistance between the lamp connector and body earth.

  • Resistance between A-117 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2 and body earth
  • Resistance between A-37 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2 and body earth
  • Resistance between F-05 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
  • Resistance between F-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness from A-117 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2 or A-37 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2, F-05 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 or F-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 to body earth.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector F-07 <licence plate lamp>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Connector check: C-218 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 6. Check the wiring harness from A-117 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 or A-37 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1, F-05 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2 or F-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2 to C-218 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.15.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check junction block connectors C-210 <position lamp>, C-221 <licence plate lamp (L.H. drive vehicles)>, C-204 <licence plate lamp (R.H. drive vehicles)>, intermediate connectors C-31 <tail licence plate lamp (R.H. drive vehicles)> and F-07 <licence plate lamp>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the output lines for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Retest the system.

Check that the position lamps and the licence plate lamps illuminate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The lamps illuminate normally at both high and low beams. : The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
When the position lamps do not illuminate : Replace the position lamp socket.
When the licence plate lamps do not illuminate : Replace the licence plate lamp socket.
