INSPECTION PROCEDURE C-1: Dead lock system does not work at all.



caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.


COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If the dead lock system does not work at all, the dead lock relay or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES




DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. Check the operation of the keyless entry system.


If the keyless entry system is operated, check that the doors can be locked and unlocked normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES <Vehicles with keyless operation system> : Go to Step 2.

YES <Vehicles without keyless operation system> : Go to Step 3.

Refer to Symptom Chart <Vehicles without keyless operation system> or GROUP 42B, Symptom Chart <Vehicles with keyless operation system>.

STEP 2. Check the operation of the keyless operation system.


If the keyless operation system is operated, check that the doors can be locked and unlocked normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Refer to GROUP 42B, Symptom Chart .

STEP 3. Check the power supply circuit.


When the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK (OFF) position, check if the hazard warning lamps illuminate.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Refer to GROUP 54A, Malfunction of ETACS-ECU Power Supply Circuit .

STEP 4. Check the dead lock relay.


Refer to Dead Lock Relay Inspection .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Replace the dead lock relay.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at dead lock relay connector (+B2 terminal).


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the voltage between the dead lock relay connector (+B2 terminal) and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check of short to power supply, short of earth, and open circuit in power supply line the wiring harness between dead lock relay connector and fusible link.


Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Retest the system.


Check that the dead lock system works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Replace the ETACS-ECU.
