INSPECTION PROCEDURE
D-1: Dead Lock System does not work at All.
caution
Whenever the ECU is replaced,
ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.
COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the dead lock system does not work at all, the dead lock relay or the ETACS-ECU may
be defective.
PROBABLE CAUSES
Malfunction of the dead lock relay
Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
Damaged harness wires and connectors
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check the operation of the keyless entry system.
If the keyless entry system is operated, check that the doors and the tailgate can be
locked and unlocked normally.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Refer to GROUP 42B, troubleshooting or GROUP
42C, troubleshooting .
STEP 2. Check the power supply circuit.
When the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK (OFF) position, check if the hazard warning
lamps illuminate.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Refer to GROUP 54A, malfunction of ETACS-ECU power supply circuit .
STEP 3. Connector check: C-302 dead lock relay connector
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the defective connector.
STEP 4. Check the dead lock relay.
Refer to dead lock relay inspection .
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the dead lock relay.
STEP 5. Voltage measurement at C-302 dead lock relay connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the voltage between the C-302 dead lock relay connector terminal No.1 and
body earth. OK: Battery positive voltage
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.
STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between C-302 dead lock relay connector
terminal No.1 and fusible link (38).
note
Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check ETACS-ECU connector C-309, and repair if necessary.
Check the power supply line for open or short circuit.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use
Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points -
How to Cope with Intermittent
Malfunction ).
Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 7. Voltage measurement at C-302 dead lock relay connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the voltage between the C-302 dead lock relay connector terminal No.3 and
body earth. OK: Battery positive voltage
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 9.
Go to Step 8.
STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between C-302 dead lock relay connector
terminal No.3 and fusible link (38).
STEP 9. Resistance measurement at C-302 dead lock relay connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Continuity between C-302 dead lock relay connector terminal No.2 and body earth OK: Continuity (less than 2Ω)
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 11.
Go to Step 10.
STEP 10. Check the wiring harness between C-302 dead lock relay connector
terminal No.2 and body earth.
Check the earth wires for open circuit.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use
Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points -
How to Cope with Intermittent
Malfunction ).
Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 11. Retest the system.
Check that the dead lock system works normally.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use
Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points -
