Diagnosis Item 11: Diagnose the lines between joint connector (CAN2) and joint connector (CAN3)

caution

When servicing a CAN bus line, earth yourself by touching a metal object such as an unpainted water pipe. If you fail to do, a component connected to the CAN bus line may be broken.

FUNCTION

If a failure is present in the wiring harness between the joint connector (CAN2) and the joint connector (CAN3), this diagnosis result will be set.

TRUBLE JUDGEMENT CONDITIONS

If a communication flag is not set for some of the ECUs on the CAN-C line, the ETACS-ECU determines that there is a failure.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

Malfunction of the connector [joint connector (CAN2), joint connector (CAN3) or intermediate connector failed]
Malfunction of the wiring harness [open circuit between joint connector (CAN2) and joint connector (CAN3)]

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: C-04 joint connector (CAN2) and C-01 joint connector (CAN3)

The strand end of the twist wire should be within 10 cm from the connector. For details refer to

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 2.

	Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the wiring harness between C-04 joint connector (CAN2) and C-01 joint connector (CAN3)

caution

Strictly observe the specified wiring harness repair procedure. For details refer to

Disconnect joint connector (CAN2) and joint connector (CAN3), and check the following wiring harness.

The wiring harness between C-04 joint connector (CAN2) terminal No.7 and C-01 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.5 <LHD - CAN_H>
The wiring harness between C-04 joint connector (CAN2) terminal No.6 and C-01 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.5 <RHD - CAN_H>
The wiring harness between C-04 joint connector (CAN2) terminal No.20 and C-01 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.16 <LHD - CAN_L>
The wiring harness between C-04 joint connector (CAN2) terminal No.19 and C-01 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.16 <RHD - CAN_L>

Check C-37 intermediate connector, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

	The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

	Repair the wiring harness.
