Code No.C1454, C1455, C1456: Transfer Position Detection Switch System
OPERATION
System voltage is applied to the each detection switch (terminal No.1) from the transfer-ECU (terminal No.46, No.47, No.53, No.54, No.55).
The each detection switch is earthed through the transfer case to the vehicle body.
DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS
When the transfer changeover is not completed while driving, code No. C1454 is set for abnormality of each transfer position detection switch.
When the transfer changeover is not completed while the vehicle is stopped, code No. C1455 is set for abnormality of each transfer position detection switch.
When the abnormality of each transfer position detection switch is detected all the time, code No. C1456 is set.
PROBABLE CAUSES
Malfunction of the each transfer detection switch
Damaged harness wires and connectors
Malfunction of the transfer-ECU
Malfunction of the shift actuator
Malfunction of the transfer shift mechanism
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III actuator test
Item 2: Shift actuator (Refer to data list reference table ).
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the shift actuator (Refer to GROUP 22B -
Transfer ).
STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list
Item 40: Transfer position (Refer to data list reference table ).
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 -
How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check the transfer shift lever switch.
Refer to .
Q.

Go to Step 10.
Go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Measure the voltage at transfer-ECU connector D-123.
(1)Disconnect the each detection switch connectors C-08, C-09, C-12, C-13, C-14.
(2)Measure the voltage between transfer-ECU connector D-123 terminals No.53, No.47, No.55, No.54, No.46 and earth at the ECU side.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. OK: System voltage
STEP 9. Check the harnesses between each detection switch connectors C-08, C-09, C-12, C-13, C-14 terminal No.1 and transfer-ECU connector D-123 terminals No.53, No.47, No.55, No.54, No.46.
Check the output line for open circuit.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 11.
Repair the wiring harness.
STEP 10. Measure the resistance at each detection switch connectors C-08, C-09, C-12, C-13, C-14.
(1)Connect the M.U.T.-III to the diagnosis connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Transmission gear should be neutral position.
(4)Item 2: Shift actuator.
(5)Disconnect connectors C-08, C-09, C-12, C-13, C-14, and measure the voltage between terminal No.1 and earth at the wiring harness side. OK:
When the transfer position is 2H, connector C-08 terminal No.1 resistance should measure less than 2 Ω. When the transfer position is other than 2H, connector C-08 terminal No.1 resistance should measure open circuit.
When the transfer position is 2H or 4H, connector C-14 terminal No.1 resistance should measure less than 2 Ω. When the transfer position is other than 2H or 4H, connector C-14 terminal No.1 resistance should measure open circuit.
When the transfer position is 4H or 4HLc, connector C-13 terminal No.1 resistance should measure less than 2 Ω. When the transfer position is other than 4H or 4HLc, connector C-13 terminal No.1 resistance should measure open circuit.
When the transfer position is 4HLc or 4LLc, connector C-12 terminal No.1 resistance should measure less than 2 Ω. When the transfer position is other than 4HLc or 4LLc, connector C-12 terminal No.1 resistance should measure open circuit.
When the transfer position is 4LLc, connector C-09 terminal No.1 resistance should measure less than 2 Ω. When the transfer position is other than 4LLc, connector C-09 terminal No.1 resistance should measure open circuit.
